2nd Half Kick Off Classic

. Posted in Racing News

NosbischSaturday August 2nd was filled with anticipation as everyone waited to see if Mother Nature was going to play nice and let the racers and fans have a much needed racing fix. Mother Nature did play nice and a racing fix is just what everyone got, as the 2nd Half Kick Off Classic got under way at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, FL.

First to take to the track was race number 4 of the Hobby Stock Hercules Series with 21 cars slated to take the green for the 25 lap feature event. Pole sitter Tim Powers (44) would jump to early lead followed by series contender Tim Gay (95jr). These two battled closely until lap 10 when caution was brought out by debris and Gay would make a pit stop and tag the rear of the field for the restart. Eric Moon (18) would move into the second spot, as Trent Wilson (64), Ron Regula (3) and Marty Smith (18s) would move through the field to challenge for the second position. This side by side racing left Powers to set sail and win race number 4 and 4 in a row for the Hobby Stock Hercules Series, followed closely by Wilson, Moon, Regula and Smith.

Next up, with point’s leader Austin Sanders (64) not on hand for the Scorpion Performance Modifieds, fans thought local driver Shane “Sweet Feet” Nichols (65) would have an easy time taking over the points lead. That was not the case as Nichols retired his 65 car in the heat race and had to borrow an under powered e-mod to compete in the 20 lap feature event. Nichols retired the borrowed car 3 laps into the race with overheating problems. Jeff Mathews (33) was back in full force after taking a 3 month vacation from racing, as Mathews lead flag to flag in the 20 lap feature event. Mathews would be followed across the line by Kyle Bronson (40B), Kenny Monohan (311), Jim Passino (34) and Larry Mott (Z06).

The E-Modifieds were next to take to the track. Points leader Kyle Arvin (96) started on the pole and lead every circuit around the 3/8’s mile oval to win the race. Arvin who has won 4 out of the 5 e-mod events at Bubba Raceway Park seems to be unstoppable. Shane Williams (21) tried very hard to make several charges for the lead but Arvin closed the door on each attempt. Arvin was followed across the finish line by Williams, Sean Babcock (00), William Stalnaker (59) and Shane Taylor (82).

The main event of the night was the 50 Lap United Dirt Late Model sponsored in part by Parks Ford of Gainesville was up next. With 14 cars slated to take the green, fans were on their feet to watch 14 of the best drivers in Florida. Fast Qualifier Keith Nosbisch (02) would redraw the outside pole position for his start, then jump to an early lead and lead every lap of the 50 lap feature. Nosbisch was on a rail as he made laps around Bubba Raceway Park. Nosbisch looking in his rear view mirror would watch the rest of the pack battle for position. Nosbisch would be followed across the stripe by Jason Fitzgerald (7F), Ivedent Lloyd Jr. (21), Austin Kirkpatrick (11) and Mark Whitener (58).

The 1-800-Ask-Gary Thunder Stocks rolled out onto the track in full force, as Craig Montesi Jr. (39) would make his come back to racing after setting on the side lines for the last 10 years. Montesi started 3rd and jumped to an early lead, leading the first for laps of this 20 lap feature event. Montesi would be over taken by Brian Morgan (19) on lap five and Morgan would go unchallenged until lap 17 when rookie Gene Posey Jr. (56) would make a last charge for the lead. Morgan would take the checkered followed by Posey, Buddy Pope (11K), Jason Gamble (33D) and Jonathan Appleby (69A).

Join us Saturday August 9, 2014 for the Scorpion Performance Modifieds, T.Q. Late Models, Hobby Stocks, $1000 to win V-8 Thunder and Lighting Series and Gladiators. Pit gate opens at 4:00 p.m., grandstand at 5:00 p.m. and racing starts at 7:00 p.m.

BLAIR OUTLASTS LEAKING TIRE FOR NeSMITH LATE MODEL WIN

by BRP Media
Max Blair of Centerville, PA celebrates his NeSmith Late Model win on Thursday night in the Rock Auto.com Winternationals at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, FL driving the R&J Poultry Rocket. With a win and third-place showing in the first two nights of racing, Blair leads the NeSmith Late Model point standings. (PhotosByTrace.com)OCALA, FL – Max Blair of Centerville, PA had to outrun the competition and a leaking right-rear tire to win the 50-lap main event on Thursday night for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series in the Rock Auto.com Winternationals at Bubba Raceway Park. Blair drove the R&J Poultry Rocket to the $2,500 win and the NeSmith Late Model point lead. “During a caution period on lap 20, my dad gave me a signal that my right-rear tire was going down,” Blair said. “I worked the car back and forth, and it felt fine, so I just kept going. I was really sweating it out in the last laps of the race because I could really feel it going away, but it stayed up until right after I took the checkered flag.” Blair started out the evening by taking fast time honors with a lap around Bubba Raceway Park in 15.947 seconds to earn the pole position for the main event. Blair took the lead at the start of the race, but he had plenty of company throughout the race. The first nine laps were led by Blair, and then he decided to go to the outside to negotiate around the cars on the tail of the lead lap. That opened up the inside groove for Walker Arthur of Forest, VA, who got… read more
