Gough Battled Competitors and Track for Hard Fought Victory
Ocala, FL, After 3 weeks of rain outs and torrential downpours almost every day, the track crew at Bubba Raceway Park worked hard to prepare the track for action this past Saturday night. Despite their effort and as storms raged all around Bubba Raceway Park was able to finally get the show in, as Mother Nature showed a little mercy on us.
First to take to the track were the E-Modifieds. Setting the pace for the 20 lap feature event was the (10t) of Dustin Thayer and the (8) of Mike Stalnaker. Dustin took the early lead until Lap 3 when the number (11) machine of Shane Williams took a commanding lead. Williams would lead until lap 16 when he retired his car to the pit area. The (96) of Kyle Arvin would take the lead and the win followed by (95) Nevin Gainey for second, (21) Jon Layered for third, (5) Tom Sheehan for forth and (11) of Shane Williams rounded out the top 5 positions.
T.Q. Late Models roared out of the pits in normal fashion, with the (6) of David Radar and the (45) of Randy Glick on the front row to take the green. They would not hold off the (007) of Terry Wright for long as Wright took the lead on lap 2 and set sail for the victory. Following Wright across the stripe would be Glick for second, (H1) of Dalton Hopke for third, (15) Austin Strosahl for third and Radar for fifth.
The Hobby Stock Hercules Series was up next and in full force with a full field of some of the best Hobby Stocks in the State of Florida. The (44) of Tim Powers would lead every lap of the 30 lap feature. As it seemed that no one had anything for Powers the (21) of Scotty Kay Jr. would challenge Powers in the last 5 laps of the race. Powers would hold on to the win, followed by Kay for second, (64) Trent Wilson for third, (17F) Joe Forsyth for forth and (76) David Arivette for fifth.
The Limited Late Models were next to take to the track. What a show they put on, with great side by side racing for the lead between (21G) Forrest Gough and (57) Eddie Gainey. These 2 raced side by side for 18 laps and on the final lap it was Gough for the win over 2nd place Gainey. Following them to the checkered was (17) Nevin Gainey for third, (55) Tim Dowling for forth and (102) Jason Pope for fifth.
The V-8 Thunder Stock racers showed up in large numbers, with 21 cars slated to take the green flag for their 20 Lap Feature Event. It would be the (69A) of Jonathan Appleby and the (9) of Jeff Stalnaker Jr. scheduled to start on the front row. Stalnaker would change his ride from the heat and have to start at the tail of the feature, moving the (93) of Marco Reyes to the front row of the initial start of this race. Reyes would lead the first 3 circuits and relinquish the lead to the (3) of Joey Durbin. Durbin would lead until lap 11 and a battle would pursue between him and the (11K) of Shane Williams for the remaining 9 laps. Williams would come out the victor followed by (33D) Jason Gamble for second, Appleby for third, Durbin for forth and Stalnaker would make his way through the field for fifth. Post race inspection would disqualify Appleby moving the (24K) of Kevin Mills to Fifth.
