12-1-13. Ocala, FL- The inaugural Leftovers Classic at Bubba Raceway Park hosted the Bubba Army Mini Sprints, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks, TQ Late Models, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators in a wonderful Sunday show.

The Hobby Stocks would open up the Leftovers Classic with a 25-lapper and Donnie Ashford would lead the pack over Tim Powers and Kevin Durden. On lap seven the battle for sixth would bring out a caution as Patrick Williams and Eddie Kilbury came together to slow the field and leave Ashford to hold off Powers and Durden on the restart. Mike Stalnaker would find the line and jump to second by the time Dennis Williams' flat left rear would bring the yellow out with just nine laps remaining. Ashford would have to hold Stalnaker off as well as Rodney Wright. Stalnaker would grab the lead after a few circuits after Ashford slipped up on lap 18 and Ashford left the door for Rodney Wright to finish second. Ashford would slip to third over Kevin Durden and Tim Powers. Stalnaker would also grab the Dirts 4 Racing Hard Charger Award.

TQ Late Model action kicked off with Terry Wright grabbing the lead from Don Strosahl, Jr. The two would battle for 15 laps before Strosahl would grab the lead in lapped traffic on lap 16 and never look back. Strosahl would win over Wright while John Hopke, Dalton Hopke, and Jerry Heflin all finished over half a lap behind.

The Mini Sprints would be the middle feature and Nick Snyder, Bob Toney, and Sheldon Kinser, Jr. had a wild ride in turn four. Jim Young would rocket to the lead before a lap ten caution came out for Richard Braxton as his right rear began to spark and brought a safety caution out. Johnstown, Pennsylvania's Young would put on a clinic to the end and win comfortably over Gavin Thomas, Eddie Moss, Jr., Robbie Smith, and Austin Craddock.

The 1-800-ASK GARY Thunder Stocks started off with Shane Williams leading over Melvin Fockler and Alan Peacock. Williams would continue to dominate while Peacock and Jeff Stalnaker, Jr. followed. With just five to go Jon Layerd and Austin Stamper would spin in turn four and leave Williams, Peacock, and Stalnaker to duke it out for the win. Williams would take the #3H to Coors Light Winner's Circle in a very emotional win for car owners Jimmy Holley and Dean Kinsey while Peacock, Stalnaker, Justin Durbin, and Jason Gamble completed the top five.

The finale for the afternoon would be the Rent-N-Roll Gladiators. Steve Johnson would find the wall on lap one and that would end his night in what could've been a great run for driver #81. Brandon Jones would lead early and dominate until his right front tire blew with just two laps to go. Brandon Haseleu would grab his misfortune and lead to turn three but Stephen Frankland would dive into turn three and move Haseleu out of the lead. The #7UK would lead at the line over Haseleu, David Walls, and Jason Tackett but Frankland would be put at the tail end of the lead lap for rough driving. Haseleu would be disqualified after he retaliated on Frankland. David Walls would receive the win over Frankland, Jason Tackett, Brandon Jones, and Chris Hennessy.

DARLAND STRETCHES NATIONAL WIN STREAK TO 23 YEARS WITH SUNDAY OCALA WIN

by BRP Media
Ocala, Florida…….Dave Darland added to the most impressive streak in USAC history on Sunday night at Bubba Raceway Park, as he added another AMSOIL National Sprint Car win to his list and made it 23 consecutive seasons with at least one win in a USAC National series. The Lincoln, Indiana veteran’s all-time record 54th National Sprint Car win came in flag-to-flag fashion aboard the Phillips Motorsports – Trench Shoring #71P DRC/Foxco. “My crew had to work their asses off just to get the car ready for the feature after some issues in the heat race and then gave me a great car even without having much chance to keep up with the track. We have just had some bad luck out of the gate, but tonight was a great way to rebound. It’s good to be down here while it’s snowing at home, and I can drink a beer to celebrate while it’s warm outside. And it’s good to get my first win in the state of Florida!” Darland said. Darland led at the start over polesitter Chris Windom, while Robert Ballou was the early man on the move, jumping into the top-five in just a few laps after starting tenth. A red flag on lap six brought things to a screeching halt as Brady Short flipped hard into turn three and collected Landon Simon. Neither driver was hurt. After a tangle on the ensuing restart, Ballou found himself bringing out the next caution as he slid to a stop in turn-three, giving up the fifth spot but restarting at the tail. Under that caution, defending champion and current point leader Brady Bacon… read more
