The four-truck Grave Digger team will face off against a team of Monster Jam's bad boys including Mohawk Warrior, Monster Mutt Rottweiler, Metal Mulisha, and Dooms Day. Good Friday Means Great Action At Ocala

. Posted in Racing News

ZUBER, FL- The coming holiday weekend offers some inexpensive and exciting entertainment located close to home for Ocala area residents, as Ocala Speedway will offer another night of quality dirt racing action on Good Friday night.  After a rainout on March 27th, the Open Wheel Modified division will hit the clay for their first points race of 2009.  Joining the Modifieds will be the Hobby Stocks, Mini Stocks, and the Gladiators.  The Amsoil V8 Thunder Stocks will have the week off.
Dave Barber Jr. won the first Modified race at Ocala of the 2009 season, but that race was a non points event held the second week of the season.  Barber went home with the winner's purse and the satisfaction of collecting a win, but he gained no points advantage over the other Modified competitors.  All racers who show up on Friday will be starting from zeros, and will have an equal opportunity to come out as the 2009 points leader.  As for Dave Barber, he will be defending his earlier win, and hoping that he can return to a victory celebration where points come with the trophy.
Hobby Stock fans have seen the rise of a new star in 2009 as Bubba Christian has risen to the top of the heap at Ocala Speedway.  What began as a second place tandem finish with his uncle, Grady Christian, has become a trend as Bubba has upped his standing with two Hobby Stock victories at Ocala.  Meanwhile Ocala's David Kinsey and Joe Boyd are among the racers looking to knock Bubba back a notch or two by by collecting victories of their own on Easter weekend.  The question as to who will win this weekend will be settled on the clay in beautiful downtown Zuber on Friday night.
Greg Bonynge has gotten his Mini Stock hooked up within the past few weeks at Ocala and raced to a third place finish on April 3rd.  Sean Babcock and Paul Combast both have already claimed wins this season, while Kristopher Prouty has run strong but been thwarted by mechanical issues.  So far no one has stepped up and made themselves the racer to beat, so the Mini Stock race could likely see yet another racer claim victory, or someone could notch a second one.

The Gladiator division has also seen a variety of winners so far in 2009, and the usual suspects are likely to be on hand to race again on Friday.  Steven Cox, Tony Laporta, and Larry Langston, have all raced well and claimed victories at a variety of speedways this season, while racers like 12 year old Kody Fisher are learning the ropes and working to gain ground.  Anyone could win this weekend at Ocala and a strong field of Gladiators is expected to try.

Ocala Speedway will open the pit gate at 2PM on Friday, and it is likely many racers will come early for the best spots as most will not be working on the holiday.  The grandstand gate will open at 5PM, and practice is slated to begin by division at 7PM.  The first heat race will hit the clay at 8PM sharp!  For more information on Ocala Speedway, or to see a complete schedule of events, go to www.OcalaSpeedway.com, or call the tack at 352-622-9400.
