Tim Powers has taken a liking to the clay and has built up an 82 point lead over Kevin Durden. Following Durden closely is Buck Woodhouse. Woodhouse has done fantastic and hopes to re-take 2nd by the end of the night. "Smokin" Joe Belkey is 4th in a season where he has a win and he has turned bad nights into top 5s to stay close to the front. Belkey hopes to shake the bad luck and show the leaders what he has in his #12. Joe Boyd has been consistent and has his #83 in 5th with a few events to go. Tommy Ausburn and the #69 team have moved up to 6th with good consistent performences. Howard Osteen, James Erickson, Donnie Reed, and Mark Maresca have missed events for various reasons and that has cost them valuable points. All 4 could take a win at any time and would celebrate proudly in victory circle.
The battle for the points lead has been Steve Cox vs. Reid Christensen. Cox has had leads of as few as 30 and as large as 70 but in recent weeks Cox has extended the lead back to 51. A bad week for Cox and a win by Christensen, however, could bring this battle right back to life. Brandon Haseleu is a distant 3rd and still seeks for win #1 which couldn't come at a better time for the young driver. Steve Johnson, Cox's team-mate, is 4th and has come closer and closer to victory lane in recent weeks. Richard Todd and Jerry Taylor continue to battle for the top 5 with Todd up by 1 point after an all-year battle. Matt Kramer is all alone in 7th and has gotten faster and faster every week-end and could join the lead pack with some luck on the starting grid. Robert Graham and Kody Fisher are 8th and 9th, respectively, but have missed the past few week-ends. Both have shown flashes of brilliance and could finish the job at any time. Stephen Frankland rounds out the top 10 in a season where he has a few top 5s in the smallest car on the grid.
