Five Divisions Under The Lights At Bubba Raceway Park

. Posted in Racing News

Late Models return to Bubba Raceway Park this week-end, while the Hobby Stocks start their points season, and the Mini Stocks, Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks, and Gladiators attempt to score valuable points for the season. Many drivers will enter the clay battlefield, but only 5 will leave victorious on this night.

The Late Models are so competitive that they are the only division without a feature winner in the points lead! Dillon Wood currently holds a 3 point advantage over Ivedent Lloyd, Jr., who is coming off of his 2nd career Powell Memorial victory, and both would like to take a feature victory. Of course, neither will let up and that alone will make it worth watching. Johnny Collins is in 3rd and he's only a mere 10 points out of the lead. Collins will attempt to take a win and move up the standings in a hurry. Tyler Ivey, the first feature winner at Bubba Raceway Park, is 4th, 13 markers shy of the points lead. Ivey has proven he can win, and another win could put him back on top of the standings. "Catfish" Keith Nosbisch is 1 point behind Ivey, and Nosbisch would love a trip to victory circle in the #02 car. But, those are only 5 of the 25 drivers who will get a chance on the clay at Bubba Raceway Park.

Bubba Raceway Park originally had no Hobby Stock schedule, but Bubba listened to the fans and drivers, and gave them a chance. Hobby Stock drivers took their opportunity and Bubba gave them a season points fund at Bubba Raceway Park. The first event, won by Chad Scranton, was not worth points. Scranton would love to stay un-defeated at Bubba Raceway Park, especially after his successes in the Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks last week-end. Every driver who shows up this week-end will look for the early advantage in the season standings.

Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks always impress the fans, especially when cars go flying. Jason Gamble, the current points leader by 27 points, has 3 wins in 2011, but also a terrible barrel roll down the frontstretch. Gamble will attempt to take win #4, but will have many to beat, including Vaughn Woodall. Woodall is 2nd and a win could put the 3W within striking distance of Gamble. Jonathan Gillette is the 3rd place man, and he's done it on consistent top-10 finishes. Gillette will look to keep the streak alive and better it too. Gordon Cade, the asphalt-turned-dirt driver, is 4th. Cade will try to put that 121 at the point, both in the race and in the standings, but neither will come easy. "The Canuck" Tim Mathieu has moved into the top 5 and will have to claw his way up to make up the 59 points to Jason Gamble. No driver will give up and that will lead to some exciting racing.

Ray Folwell is 3-1 this season in the Mini Stocks and holds a 3-point advantage over young Ryan Babcock. Babcock continues to use consistent top-10s to score points, and will keep Folwell battling for wins. Brittany Yates has a win already, but wants another one. Yates is only 3 points behind Babcock which gives the Mini Stocks 3 drivers with no margin for error at the front. Ray Ethridge is 4th, 23 markers behind the leader. Ethridge will do everything it takes to put his 21 in victory circle and make up points on the top 3. Charlie Staats, fresh off of a win, is 38 down, but never out. Staats won't give up and that could give everyone a show to remember for decades.

The Gladiators know a driver with a target on his back that grows bigger every week: Steve Cox. Cox has 3 consecutive wins and would love to go 4-for-4. Cox will have to hold off the charges from Greg Boynge and Brandon Haseleu, 2 very hungry drivers. Boynge and Haseleu will try to be the ones to de-throne Cox, but it's easier said then done. Michael Carr will look to redeem his accident from last week-end, and nothing is sweeter then a win. The 5th place driver, Reid Christensen, will also try to put his 30 car in victory circle, but nothing comes easy on the clay.

You won't want to miss any of the exciting racing at Bubba Raceway Park! Gates open at 4:30 with racing at 7. For more information you can check out www.bubbaracewaypark.com or call the Speedway hotline.

DARLAND STRETCHES NATIONAL WIN STREAK TO 23 YEARS WITH SUNDAY OCALA WIN

by BRP Media
Ocala, Florida…….Dave Darland added to the most impressive streak in USAC history on Sunday night at Bubba Raceway Park, as he added another AMSOIL National Sprint Car win to his list and made it 23 consecutive seasons with at least one win in a USAC National series. The Lincoln, Indiana veteran’s all-time record 54th National Sprint Car win came in flag-to-flag fashion aboard the Phillips Motorsports – Trench Shoring #71P DRC/Foxco. “My crew had to work their asses off just to get the car ready for the feature after some issues in the heat race and then gave me a great car even without having much chance to keep up with the track. We have just had some bad luck out of the gate, but tonight was a great way to rebound. It’s good to be down here while it’s snowing at home, and I can drink a beer to celebrate while it’s warm outside. And it’s good to get my first win in the state of Florida!” Darland said. Darland led at the start over polesitter Chris Windom, while Robert Ballou was the early man on the move, jumping into the top-five in just a few laps after starting tenth. A red flag on lap six brought things to a screeching halt as Brady Short flipped hard into turn three and collected Landon Simon. Neither driver was hurt. After a tangle on the ensuing restart, Ballou found himself bringing out the next caution as he slid to a stop in turn-three, giving up the fifth spot but restarting at the tail. Under that caution, defending champion and current point leader Brady Bacon… read more
