Neither Rain Nor The Lights Stop Action At Bubba Raceway Park

. Posted in Racing News

The rain out of turn 4 and even the frontstretch lights shutting off during the Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks feature couldn't damper the night of 5 divisions. The Late Models and UMP Open-Wheel Modifieds headlined the night with the Mini Stocks, Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks, and Gladiators also racing for very important points in 2011.

The Mini Stocks were up first and Ray Folwell was looking for his 3rd consecutive win, but everyone else was looking at the target. On lap 1 the action stopped for Cody Kinsey who was stuck in turn 4. After the restart Ray Folwell made accidental contact with Chris Zimmermann, putting the 29 into a loop. The restart gave Brittany Yates her chance and she took it and put the 53 in position #1. On lap 13, Ray Rogers spun the 22 while running in the top 5 which cost him a shot at the point. With 4 laps to go, the Rays, Ethridge and Folwell, made contact and Folwell kept his spot at the back as Ethridge was given his position at the tail. Yates held off the challenges for the final 4 laps to take the win over Ray Rogers, Sean Babcock,  Robert Morfin, Jr., and Ryan Babcock. However, in tech, Sean Babcock's 9B was found under-weight and therefore deemed illegal moving Morfin to the podium, Ryan Babcock to 4th, and Ray Folwell went home 5th.

The UMP Open-Wheel Modifieds took to the clay 2nd and they used all 25 minutes. On lap 1 the 66 of Dale Murray and the 10 of Scott Mooers made contact and brought out the yellow. The lap 9 caution was very unfortunate as it was for pole-sitter and then-leader Kyle Owen in the 2. On the restart the 40B of Kyle Bronson and the 27 of Bruce Harvey spun in turn 1. The lap 12 wreck of Jason Davis, James Smith, Garland Spangler, Steve Whitener, and Scott Mooers colliding in turn 4. On lap 19 Jeff Bagent spun setting up a Green/White- Checkered for Jeff Mathews to hold off Ivedent Lloyd, Jr., in a rare appearance in Mathews car, and hold him off he did. Jeff Mathews took the yellow-filled race with Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. putting the team car 2nd, Jamie Carter in a come-from-behind 3rd, Kyle Bronson in 4th, and Steve Whitener took 5th.

Late Model racing with the likes of Lloyd, Ivey, Whitener, Cobb, and Nobles is always good and it was no exception this week. On lap 11 the 3 of Billy Boyd, 11 of Matthew Hartley, and 18 of J.O. Nobles made contact and spun. Lap 15 disappointed many fans as the 21 of Ivedent Loyd, Jr. pulled the 21 off for the night. Keith Nosbisch and Ken Monahan found the wall on lap 17, however, both did continue. As David Clegg pulled the 07 off the yellow flag came out setting up a 4-lap dash. They dashed and Darrell Padgett took the flag-to-flag win with Mark Whitener using the magic for 2nd, Johnny Collins in 3rd place, Tyler Ivey in a strong 4th, and Bo Allen took home a top 5 finish.

The lights may have gone out, but they came back on for the Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks. On lap 1, Brandon Tillander, Richard Calmes, and Mickey Jackson spun as the lights went off. After a red flag for nearly 20 minutes because of the lights, the Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks went to lap 10 before Mickey Jackson smacked the wall and Jonathan Appleby, Nathan Huffington, and Tim Mathieu crashed on the frontstretch. After the clean-up it was all Jason Gamble as Don Stroshal's transmission failed him. Gamble held off the 121 of Gordon Cade in his best ever dirt finish, Brian Mullins, Jonathan Gillette, and Vaughn Woodall.

The Gladiators saw 12 enter the arena, but only 1 could emerge victorious. On lap 9 the amazing battle between Greg Boynge and Steve Cox ended when Boynge's wheel fell off. Cox led the final 6 laps, but had to earn it. Michael Carr kept the car clean and took 2nd place home, Brandon Haseleu took another podium finish, Jerry Taylor put the 76 in 4th, and Jason Brown was the last in the money.

Next Friday and Staurday night is the Powell Memorial with racing at 8:00 on Friday and 7:00 on Saturday. The Late Models qualify and dash for cash and the other classes run heats and a dash for cash on Friday. Saturday will be A-mains for the Late Models, Mini Stocks, and Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks. Gates open at 5:00 and racing at 8:00 on FRIDAY night for the first half of the Powell Memorial. For more information check out www.bubbaracewaypark.com or call the Speedway hotline.

Bubba Raceway Park Results for 08-23-2014

by BRP Media
August 23, 2014, Ocala, FL- Florida’s number one dirt track was in perfect condition as cars rolled out on to the track for the start of their heat races. As Mother Nature threatened the nights racing action with a rain shower during heat races, Jimmy Flores and track crew went to work again to bring the surface back to life and complete the nights racing events. The fans that showed up and waited the rain out were in for a treat as the racers took to the well prepared surface. First up were Hobby Stocks with David Arivett (76) and Joe Forsyth (17F) starting on the front row. Fans asked if we would see a first time feature winner in victory lane, or would the only previous feature winner in the field, Rick Elwood (92) be able to take home his third feature win of the season. At the drop of the green flag Arivett would get the jump on Forsyth, but Forsyth refused to settle for second. Forsyth looked high and low looking for a way around Arivett. On Lap 12 Arivette would give Forsyth the inside line coming out of turn two, once there it appeared Arivette would push to the wall and spin bring out the caution. Forsyth would control the lead and bring home is first Feature win of the season, followed by William Edwards (08E), Elwood (92) Brandon Elwood (28E) and Arivett (76). Heat race winners were Cory Hupp (22) and Forsyth. Next, the Florida T.Q. Late Models roared out onto the track in usual fashion. It was fan favorite Terry Wright (007) to jump to early lead. On lap three… read more
